Google Play System Update Beta Program Coming Soon (v48.5.23)

  • A new “beta program” is expected to be launched for early access to “Google Play system updates.”
  • An analysis of the in-app code of the Android Google Play Store app v48.5 (version: 48.5.23-31 [0] [PR] 820926732) update confirms that multiple strings related to a “beta program” for “Google Play system updates” have been added.
  • Similar to the beta programs available for some apps, the “Google Play system update” beta program will allow users to easily opt-in and opt-out.

The “Google Play system update” is delivered monthly to Android devices as part of the “Google System Updates,” a set of new features rolled out by Google to enhance the security and reliability of devices on the Android platform.

“Google Play system updates” primarily introduce a portion of the so-called Android security patches, including content published in the “Android Security Bulletin,” which details security vulnerabilities affecting Android devices and the fixes (security patches) for them. In other words, a “Google Play system update” is a monthly Android security patch update delivered separately from the main Android device software updates.

These “Google Play system updates” are delivered almost every month, but the release schedule isn’t fixed, and the rollout timing varies by device. Some users are surely frustrated while waiting for the update to arrive.

However, it appears a “beta program” will be launched in the future for early access to “Google Play system updates.” After analyzing the in-app code of the Android Google Play Store app v48.5 (version: 48.5.23-31 [0] [PR] 820926732), which was released around Friday, October 24, 2025, we confirmed that multiple strings related to a “beta program” for “Google Play system updates” have been added.

From the code above, we can see text such as “beta program,” “Join beta,” “Leave beta,” and “Google Play system update.” This indicates that, similar to the beta programs available for some apps, the “Google Play system update” will also have a beta program that allows users to easily opt-in and opt-out.

The beta program for “Google Play system updates” has not been officially launched yet, but it is expected to be rolled out with a future update to the Android Google Play Store app. Additionally, an announcement is likely to be made in the “Google System Release Notes,” which provide the latest information on “Google System Updates.”
