It appears that a highly anticipated new feature is set to arrive for Google’s online photo library service, Google Photos.

The long-awaited feature coming to Google Photos is the ability to change video playback speed. Currently, since playback controls are not yet available, videos can only be played at standard 1x speed. However, users will soon be able to adjust the speed in five levels: [0.25x], [0.5x], [1x], [1.5x], and [2x].

This news comes from details found within the in-app code of the Google Photos for Android v7.58 update, released on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. While the feature is still an internal implementation and has not yet been officially released, it is expected to begin rolling out shortly.
