It has been revealed that Google has filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a new battery structure specifically targeted at its next-generation foldable Google Pixel devices.

The standout feature of this new battery structure patent is that it utilizes a mechanical fastening system instead of the widely used practice of securing batteries with adhesive. Conventional designs that rely on adhesive run the risk of the bond peeling due to the stress of opening and closing a foldable device. Furthermore, they have the inherent disadvantage of making battery repairs difficult.

To resolve these drawbacks, Google appears to have developed a structure that secures the battery mechanically. Specifically, the battery is inserted into a metallic internal slot to keep it in place.

This design ensures the battery is held securely while making it easier to attach and detach, which in turn simplifies repairs.
