Fitbit, the fitness tracker manufacturer under Google, appears to be conducting a study called the “Fitbit Hypertension study” (codename: Tidal) to identify signs of high blood pressure using the Google Pixel Watch series.
Based on our own investigation, we have discovered references to the implementation of the “Fitbit Hypertension study” in the code of the Fitbit for Android app, version v4.53, released around Monday, October 6, 2025. The upcoming “Fitbit Hypertension study” from Fitbit is a screening study that will use data collected from the Google Pixel Watch. In short, it is a limited study to determine whether the Google Pixel Watch can detect signs of high blood pressure.
Data for the study will be collected from users who opt-in through “Fitbit Labs,” a section for experimental features within the Fitbit for Android app. Additionally, a select group of users will be provided with a blood pressure monitor that must be worn for 24 hours. The monitor must be returned, and upon its successful return, participants will receive a $50 compensation.
However, the regions where the “Fitbit Hypertension study” will be available are currently unknown. It is expected to be available in the United States, at the very least.

If this “Fitbit Hypertension study” confirms its effectiveness, a high blood pressure detection feature will be officially rolled out to the Google Pixel Watch series in the future. However, as it is still in the research stage, a hypertension detection feature for the Google Pixel Watch series is not guaranteed.
