YouTube for Android to Add Recovery for Interrupted Live Streams (v20.40.36)

  • A new feature to recover from forced “YouTube Live” interruptions appears to be rolling out to the Android “YouTube” app.
  • Based on our own investigation of the in-app code from the Android “YouTube” app version v20.40.36, released on Thursday, October 2, 2025, we discovered references to a “crash_recovery” feature that allows users to resume a “YouTube Live” stream from where it was interrupted.
  • When a “YouTube Live” stream is forcibly interrupted, a dialog box titled “Stream Interrupted” will apparently appear with the message, “Do you want to resume your last stream where you left off?” along with “Resume” and “End” options.

For live streamers on the “YouTube” platform, a major issue is the sudden, forced interruption of a live stream due to some kind of glitch.

When a “YouTube Live” stream is forcibly interrupted, the streamer has to start a new broadcast and guide viewers to it. These forced interruptions on “YouTube Live” are a critical problem.

It appears a new feature to recover from such “YouTube Live” interruptions is being rolled out to the Android “YouTube” app. Based on our own investigation of the in-app code from the Android “YouTube” app version v20.40.36, released on Thursday, October 2, 2025, we discovered references to a “crash_recovery” feature. This feature allows users to resume a stream from the point where it was interrupted, even if it was forcibly stopped during a “YouTube Live” broadcast.

With the “crash_recovery” feature, when a “YouTube Live” stream is forcibly interrupted, a dialog box titled “Stream Interrupted” will reportedly appear. It will display the message, “Do you want to resume your last stream where you left off?” along with “Resume” and “End” options.

<string name="lc_crash_recovery_dialog_end_button_text">End</string>
<string name="lc_crash_recovery_dialog_message">Do you want to resume your last stream where you left off?</string>
<string name="lc_crash_recovery_dialog_resume_button_text">Resume</string>
<string name="lc_crash_recovery_dialog_title">Stream Interrupted</string>

The “crash_recovery” feature has not yet started rolling out in the Android “YouTube” app, but since we can confirm that the functionality is implemented internally, it is expected to be released soon.
