Android System SafetyCore: Laying the groundwork for “Android’s Digital ID” (v1.0.810389536)

  • Our independent investigation found that the v1.0.810389536 update to the “Android System SafetyCore” app adds a noteworthy new internal feature.
  • Addition of an Identity Credentials feature, specifically the addition of an “identitycredentials” service definition.
  • This is essentially the groundwork for providing the “My Number Card for Android.”

The official Google security core system app “Android System SafetyCore,” which manages various user protection features like the fraud detection in the “Google Messages” app for Android devices running Android 9 Pie and later, began rolling out an update to version v1.0.810389536 on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Google has not officially announced any new features for this v1.0.810389536 update of the “Android System SafetyCore” app. Therefore, it was expected to be a minor update with bug fixes and optimizations. However, our site’s independent investigation discovered the internal addition of a rather interesting new feature, which we will introduce here.

The interesting new internal feature in the v1.0.810389536 update for the “Android System SafetyCore” app is the addition of an Identity Credentials feature, specifically the addition of an “identitycredentials” service definition. This “identitycredentials” service feature will provide the technical foundation for storing official identification documents, like the “My Number Card,” on Android devices.

In its 2025 activity report in early September 2025, Japan’s Digital Agency announced that the “My Number Card for Android” would be available in the fall of 2026. The addition of the “identitycredentials” service definition in this v1.0.810389536 update for the “Android System SafetyCore” app is undoubtedly part of the groundwork for this release. It has also been announced that the “My Number Card for Android” will be managed through the Android version of the “Google Wallet” app, and it will be managed and used under the security protection provided by the “Android System SafetyCore” app.

Of course, the “identitycredentials” service definition added in the v1.0.810389536 update for the “Android System SafetyCore” app is not limited to the “My Number Card” and will also be used to store other national digital IDs, such as driver’s licenses and passports.
