Gemini on Android is Getting a Context Menu Soon

  • The Gemini app for Android appears to be getting more integrated into the OS for easier use.
  • An analysis of the app code in the v16.42.64 update for the Google app for Android, released on Friday, October 24, 2025, confirmed that code has been added to display new options like “Summarize (Gemini)” in the context menu.
  • This will allow users to directly have Gemini summarize selected text on Android by choosing “Summarize” from the context menu.

It appears Google’s AI, Gemini, is set to become more deeply integrated into the Android OS, making it easier to use.

An analysis of the app code in the v16.42.64 update for the Google app for Android, released on Friday, October 24, 2025, has confirmed that code was added to display a new “Summarize (Gemini)” option in the context menu. This menu lists options like “Copy,” “Share,” and “Select all” when you select text in browser apps, “Circle to Search,” or “Google Lens.”

Specifically, this means Google’s AI, Gemini, will be integrated into the “PROCESS_TEXT” feature within the Google app for Android. In other words, users will be able to directly have Gemini summarize selected text on Android by choosing “Summarize” from the context menu.

<activity-alias android:label="@string/assistant_product_name_bard" android:icon="@mipmap/assistant_robin_ic_activity" android:name="com.google.android.apps.search.assistant.surfaces.voice.robin.launcher.ProcessTextGatewayActivity" android:enabled="true" android:exported="true" android:targetActivity="com.google.apps.tiktok.nav.gateway.GatewayActivity">
                <intent-filter android:label="@string/assistant_robin_smart_text_select" android:priority="1000">
                    <action android:name="android.intent.action.PROCESS_TEXT"/>
                    <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT"/>
                    <data android:mimeType="text/plain"/>
                    <data android:mimeType="text/html"/>
                </intent-filter>
            </activity-alias>

Incidentally, while the code for this Gemini integration with the “PROCESS_TEXT” feature in the Google app for Android had been spotted before, the feature itself was disabled (android:enabled=”false”). However, in this v16.42.64 update to the Google app for Android, it has been enabled (android:enabled=”true”), suggesting that an official rollout will begin soon.
