“Shielded Email” is a sub-email address feature using temporary aliases linked to a main email address, and its arrival as a new Gmail feature has been rumored for over a year. It is designed to protect user privacy by creating unique “Shielded Email” addresses for each site and app, with emails received at these addresses being forwarded to the user’s main inbox. Of course, it’s also possible to track and manage which “Shielded Email” address received which email.

The “Shielded Email” feature was previously also included in the Google Play Services app for Android, suggesting an integration with Google Autofill. And now, the “Shielded Email” feature is included in the Android Chrome app.

“Shielded Email” may be officially announced and begin rolling out soon.
