Android’s Google Autofill to Introduce “Shielded Email” (v25.37.60)

  • Discovered mentions of a “Shielded Email” feature for sub-email addresses within the app code of the Android “Google Play services” app, version v25.37.60.
  • The feature allows for the creation of unique “Shielded Email” addresses for each site and app, with incoming emails forwarded to your main email address.
  • It appears to be integrated with “Google Autofill.”

Around September 18, 2025 (Thursday), an update for the Android “Google Play services” app to version v25.37.60 (Version: 25.37.60 (260400-807357086)) began rolling out.

New features being rolled out with this version of the Android “Google Play services” app are not yet public knowledge, even in the latest “Google System Updates” information from “Google System Release Notes.” However, we’ve discovered some interesting descriptions within the app’s code that we’d like to share. This pertains to a sub-email address feature, functioning as temporary aliases tied to your main email address, called “Shielded Email.”

Although Google’s “Shielded Email” has not been officially announced, it is a security-enhanced email feature that has been rumored to appear as a new feature in “Gmail” for over a year. It aims to protect user privacy by allowing the creation of unique “Shielded Email” addresses for each site and app, with incoming emails forwarded to your main email address. Of course, you can also track and manage which “Shielded Email” address received the email.

And while “Shielded Email” may be introduced to Android, it appears to be integrated with “Google Autofill.” When you enter an email address in an email registration form, a “Use Shielded Email” menu will appear in the pop-up when “Google Autofill” is launched. Selecting this will automatically input the generated “Shielded Email” sub-email address into the email registration form. This is a very logical security feature.

However, the introduction of “Shielded Email” in Android’s “Google Autofill” has not been officially announced or even hinted at. At this point, it has only been confirmed as a feature under development.
